**Yellowstone National Park, WY** - The Biscuit Basin area of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming has been closed after a surprise hydrothermal explosion sent a towering column of boiling water, mud, and rock into the air.
The explosion occurred at around 10:00 AM MST on July 23, 2024. Visitors were walking among the colorful hot springs when a sudden eruption sent them scrambling for cover.
The explosion was small, but it created a large enough disturbance to temporarily close the boardwalk and surrounding area. No injuries have been reported.
Park officials are currently assessing the damage and will make a decision on when to reopen the area.
