Back-to-Back Titles and 15th Trophy for Las Águilas
Mexico City, Mexico - Club América defeated fierce rivals Cruz Azul 1-0 in a thrilling Liga MX second leg final to claim back-to-back titles and secure their 15th league championship.
The match, held at the iconic Estadio Azteca, was a closely contested affair, with both teams creating numerous scoring opportunities. However, it was América who broke the deadlock in the second half when Henry Martín headed home from a cross by Álvaro Fidalgo.
Cruz Azul pushed hard for an equalizer, but América's defense held firm, ensuring that the Mexico City giants would retain their title. The victory marked the club's 15th Liga MX triumph, moving them within one of Cruz Azul's record 16 championships.
América will now represent Mexico in the FIFA Club World Cup, while Cruz Azul will face Charlotte FC in the Leagues Cup on August 1, 2024.
